Fifth Week of School

Hello bloggers,

HORRAY...I finally finished reading "At Risk"!!! It was such a great book, I enjoyed it to the last page where it ended beautifully, and left me to my thoughts.
I am going to the library this Friday to watch the assigned movies that we have to watch and start writing the report on each one of them. I also need to go get my HIV testing done because it's almost time to do module three.

I don't know about you guys but I loved module 2 last week. It was full of helpful and interesting information about our bodies and how the disease takes control of us! Completely LOVED it.

DID YOU KNOW?
Did you know that a research study conducted in the University of California showed that between1991 and 1997 there was an increase in the percentage of people who said that AIDS patients deserve their illness!
"In 1999, 41% believed they could get AIDS from using public toilets, compared to 34% in 1991. And 50% of those surveyed in 1999 believed that they could get AIDS from being coughed on by a person with AIDS, compared to 46% in 1991."

I am so shocked to hear that some people actually think AIDS patients deserve their illness. I feel bad for people who think that because they are close minded and must have a LOT of hate, anger and saddness eating them up inside. People are ignorant about HIV and I admit before this class I could probably be classified as one of those ignorant people. With that being said I am also very open minded and never would wish HIV or AIDS on anyone. If more people were open minded and even learned a little bit more about HIV and AIDS it would make a world of difference for this living with HIV or AIDS.

I loved module 2 last week also. I think it's because I started out at a Micro-molecular biology major and have take biology 1 and 2 as well as chemistry 1 and 2 and anatomy. So I love the science of things and it kept me interested the whole time I was reading the slides.

I, too, loved Module 2 last week. I am a Nursing major, so I've taken Microbiology and a couple of Anatomy classes where we have gone into the structure and physiology of several bacteria and viruses.
I enjoyed your Did you know? I did mine incorrectly last week and plan to update y profile correctly. I cannot believe that some people get assulted for being HIV positive. No one who acquires this disease is "at fault" - it is a virus that can hit anyone at anytime if people are not careful (sexually or using IV drugs). I will admit that I was pretty ignorant myself before taking this class. I knew some about the virus from my previosu sciene classes, but I was still unsure of how I would react if I were ever faced with having to deal with HIV first hand or if someone close to me found out they had it.

I agree with you Noor, I've learned so much from this class as well and MODULE 2 was very informative. I know we are only required to read one book for our assignment, but your are like the fifth person that really enjoyed "At Risk", which only makes me want to get the book as well and read it also. For my assignment I read, "Naked Truth" and it was definitely amazing and an eye opener. I will be reading "At Risk" soon, I'm sure I will enjoy it as well.

I was very disturbed to see that high percentage when asked if people deserved HIV. It's sad there is even a percentage on such a terrible statement. People who have contributed to that percentage have probably done the same things that people who have HIV have done. No one deserves a deadly illness, no matter what they have done in their lives.

Im glad you enjoyed your book for Assignment 3. I read The Naked Truth and I absolutely loved it! It was an emotional roller coaster that sometimes left me with tears. I think I might check out the other books as well. I find myself excited to get into the next assignments!

I think I'm going to read all the books on the list because from what I'm hearing they are all excellent reads. I read The Naked Truth and I chose that one mainly because Marvelyn Brown found out she was HIV positive when she was 19 and I'm 19 right now. Her story and how she developed her disease has made me reevaluate and be more cautious about the things I do and this class is really good about providing an abundance of information from beginning to end.

Hey you guys,
Lol it sounds like we're all just going to end up reading all the books on the list. I know I will start reading the naked truth when I am done with the movie report, because I've been using all my free time on watching the movies so I can start my reports, but as soon as I'm done I'll head to the library and get the book.

All the books are great to read. They all have a different slant on this disease. In your break time you should read some of the others. The Naked Truth is the newest one on the list and it was written by someone closer to the average age of students in this class.
