Learning more and more...

Hey y’all,

This is actually my first time working on the blog ahead of time, so I feel good about myself for that.

Anyway, last week I was going over module 5 when I realized that people are still so freaking ignorant!!!! Can you guys believe that people, out there on the streets, think that they’re too “cool” to get HIV/AIDS???!!! My mouth just dropped open when I read the slide. I just find it hard to believe that people in the 21st century can think that way. I know that not everyone thinks that way, but just knowing that someone out there thinks that he/she is too cool for the disease is SHOCKING! However, I learned a great deal this past week from the three modules. I found the information very helpful for me and for people around me because I certainly will not keep it from them when I know they can be benefited BIG TIME.

Another interesting thing was the question of the week. Unlike previous questions, where we had to involve our emotions when answering, this question was based on logical information. Do we want to continue testing on chimps, or testing on us? Very tough to answer!! But, I had to go with testing the chimps; less danger to humans!

DID YOU KNOW?

In UK, six cases of discrimination against HIV children in schools have been noted! Also, release of health status to teachers, parents, and students have been forced. In one case, a student found out that she's HIV positive from her teacher; she was later bullied by everyone in her school!!!! Horrible, I know. How could someone do that to a child? Also, the National Aid Trust discovered that two students were forced to leave school because they were being bullied after revealing their HIV status. I just wonder where is the Disability Discrimination Act? Where is the government? How can they let the little ones handle so much?

I agree with you, that is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. I wonder if they really think that or if they're just saying that to be funny.

I have to disagree with you about testing on chimps though. I would never sacrifice a human life over a chimp's life but I think chimps should have the same rights as humans. I think they should use human volunteers.

Where are the teachers and or supervisors when these kids are being bullied? My heart breaks, it is not their fault that have contracted this virus and to be ran out of school becuase they were bullied too much, it is just sad. Those kids will probably not receive any education at all now.

FYI: There are ways to test new vaccines without using animals or harming humans.

It is so sad that these kids get infected with HIV and then die of AIDS without their fault. People are so ignorant and they refuse to understand anything. Even in such modern times, parents will think of an HIV positive child as a 'potential danger' to their child.

The slides on Myths really opened my eyes as well on the ignorance of the world. Sadly this ignorance carries over into these people hurting innocent individuals who carry the HIV/AIDS. We must continue to educate the world even if it is one person at a time so that we can see this trend of ignorance come to a stop.

Not every country has an anti discrimination act, Noor. There were cases in the US of kids being discriminated against when the virus first was known, but I've not heard of many cases in the last five years. It would be interesting to see if kids are still being discriminated against in this country.

Hi Noor, I'm in the panhandle and received the alert on my cell phone. I bet it was pretty scary. I had no problem with taking the M & M's but where I struggled was taking the actual pills. There's only so much chocolate someone can take. I worked out extra hard to burn it off! I hated it. It was a great simulation but man did it hurt burning it off.
